Throughout Crayola’s history, several crayon colours have been retired, marking significant moments in the evolution of our vibrant palette. 

1990
For the first time in Crayola history eight colours were retired and placed in the Crayola Hall of Fame: blue gray, green blue, lemon yellow, maize, orange red, orange yellow, raw umber, and violet blue. 

Eight new colours were added: cerulean, dandelion, fuchsia, jungle green, royal purple, teal blue, vivid tangerine, and wild strawberry. 

2003
Celebrating a century of bringing colour to the world, Crayola introduced four new colours named by Crayola fans! To make room for the new hues, we bid farewell to blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry, and teal blue. 

The four new colours that were introduced are: inchworm, jazzberry jam, mango tango, and wild blue yonder. 

Kudos to our hue heroes – the consumers who voted in the ​“Save the Shade” campaign, ensuring burnt sienna stayed in the pack. 

2017
To mark National Crayon Day on March 31st, we announced Dandelion was leaving the pack. To honor this iconic colour, we sent Dandelion on a retirement tour to his favorite places. His replacement, Bluetiful, was announced on May 5, 2017.

The basic ingredients contained in Crayola Crayons are paraffin wax and colour pigment. The ingredients are the same for all Crayola Crayon colours, with some modifications in special effects crayons. We manufacture almost 3 billion crayons each year. The paraffin wax is melted and mixed together with pre-measured amounts of colour pigments. We purchase the powder pigments and either use individual colours or mix the pigments to produce the many colours of Crayola Crayons. The hot wax mixture is poured into moulding machines. In about four to seven minutes, the crayons cool and become solid. Get the best results with these tips for cleaning your Scribble Scrubbies Pets.

Scrub Under Running Water: 

  • Gently scrub your pet under running water after play. Use the scrub brush to help release the marker inks from the tiny fibers (flocking). Do not wash your Scribble Scrubbie Pets in the dishwasher or bathtub.

Allow to Dry:

  • Allow your pets to dry before a second use. Colouring on damp pets can cause the ink to wick under the fibers, making the colour harder to rinse away. Let your pet air dry before storing it.

Soaking for Stubborn Stains: 

  • If colours persist after scrubbing under running water or have been on your pet for several days, consider soaking it in water for 20 minutes. For stubborn stains, an overnight soak may be necessary.

Additional Tips: 

  • Fresh colouring is easier to clean. Soap has little effect on cleaning your pets. Fresh colouring typically requires a rinse under the faucet, while concentrated colouring may require light scrubbing under a faucet or an overnight soak.

Have questions about your Color Wonder Magic Light Brush? We have the answers! For Best Results: Always protect your work surface! If your set has a paint pot strip, it must be snapped into the base until it clicks for the Magic Light Brush to operate, with the power switch in the ​“on” position. – The unit is ​“on” when the switch is under the l. The O indicates ​“off”. Check the brush tip to be sure it is tightened. To activate the light brush, hold the brush tip over a single paint pad/​pot. Watch the bristles turn the colour of the paint inside. Dip the bristles into the colour you want and start painting on the colouring book page (a thin layer of paint works best). The brush tip will stay illuminated for approximately 10 seconds while it goes from paint to paper. Between each colour change, wipe the bristles with a dry paper towel. Be sure to snap on the paint covers after creating, to prevent paint from drying out. Battery Savers: To help preserve battery life, the Magic Light Brush will automatically turn off after 5 minutes if unused. To reactivate, push power switch to ​“off” and then back ​“on”. Because Crayola Marker components are securely sealed during the manufacturing process, we don’t recommend trying to remove the marker nib and reservoir to recycle the barrel. The marker caps can be recycled at facilities that accept #5 plastic.

We’d like to help get your Color Wonder Mess Free Airbrush working! We have some troubleshooting tips to share with you.

1) Insert new, fresh batteries in the unit.

2) Set the unit on a flat surface.

3) Push the on/​off switch located on top of the unit base to the ​“1” and away from ​“0”.

4) Look at the bottom of the handle or spray unit, and you will see a white cone. Touch the tip of the cone to the Color Wonder paper and press the yellow button. At this time, you will hear the motor turn on. This is how the hand unit must be held for the Airbrush to operate. This feature is to ensure the Airbrush will only spray downward and on the special paper.

5) When inserting the marker, listen for it to click in place. Give it a slight turn to the right and press the yellow button to activate the spray.

6) The unit will shut off if the nozzle is tilted up or to the left and right. It will also shut off if the nozzle is moved too quickly. It is important to only spray downward on the paper.
Crayola Crayons are made primarily from paraffin wax and colour pigment. Paraffin wax is made especially for Crayola by companies who extract it from products like wood and coal. Pigments come from various sources. They can be natural or man made substances. Pigments can be found in the earth, minerals and/​or made in laboratories. These raw materials are purchased from outside suppliers and are stored in our warehouse awaiting production. All of our raw materials are delivered by truck with the exception of paraffin wax, which is delivered in railroad cars. Further information is considered proprietary.
