DRAW IN THE STYLE OF C.W. JEFFERYS – Line, Value, Pattern

Supplies:

  • Crayola Fine Line Markers - Black
  • Crayola Scissors
  • Crayola Glue Sticks
  • Rulers
  • Pencils
  • Photocopied Worksheets - 1 per student
 

Steps:

Step 1
  1. Use the Draw in the Style of C.W. Jefferys worksheet. (Downloads - DrawStyleJefferys.pdf)
  2. Look closely at the picture.
  3. Notice how Jefferys repeats lines to create dark, medium and light values.
  4. Find 7 different combinations of line patterns.
  5. Choose some dark, some medium and some light values.
  6. Use a black fine line marker to draw those patterns in the boxes above the picture.

Step 2
  1. Connect the lines along the outside of the picture to make 20 rectangles.
  2. Cut the picture along the lines to make 20 pieces.

Step 3
  1. Glue half the rectangles on the paper in a checker box pattern.
  2. Glue them so they match the picture OR in a random order so they are all mixed up.

Step 4
  1. Glue the pieces so they match the picture.
  2. Use a black fine line marker to fill the white spaces with lines and patterns that connect with the lines and patterns on all 4 sides of the glued rectangles.

  1. Glue the pieces in a random order so they are all mixed up.
