No Sew Bird Wings Costume

Supplies:

  • Crayola Scissors
  • Crayola Paint Brush
  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Washable Glue
  • Crayola Acrylic Paint
  • Crayola Markers
  • Crayola Metallic Markers
  • Bright Coloured Cardstock
  • Patterned Cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Upcycled Cardboard
  • Hot Glue Gun

CIY Staff Tips:

  • For this DIY craft, we recommend covering surfaces and protecting clothing.
  • This project uses a hot glue gun. Adult assistance required.
  • Sizes of wings and rectangles may vary. We recommend measuring around the arm and arm length for guidance!

Steps:

Step 1

Sketch 2 large wings on cardboard. Sketch 4 rectangles on cardboard approximately 12”H x 2”W. Cut out.

Step 2

Cover wings and rectangles with paint. Dry 1–2 hours and flip over.

Step 3

Cover wings and rectangles with paint. Dry 1–2 hours. Add second coat. Dry 1–2 hours.

Step 4

Sketch and cut out cardstock feathers. Add detail by cutting small slits along edges.

Step 5

Sketch feathers on construction paper and add details with broad line markers. Cut out.

Step 6

Sketch feathers on cardstock and add details with metallic markers. Cut out.

Step 7

Glue feathers to sides of wings with 2 coats of paint. Dry 1–2 hours and flip over.

Step 8

Have an adult hot glue cardboard 2 rectangles to back of each wing, gently bending to create arm loops. Let cool 30 minutes.

Step 9

Slide arms through loops and flap around in your new costume!
